Hello from Mike/Mr. Yarnista/Hubby/Big Mike Mike! I consider myself to be very fortunate for a lot of reasons, but recently I feel especially fortunate to be a part of two very generous communities...knitters & gamers.
As I’m sure you know by now, Firefly Fibers has made the big move from 112 Front St. all the way to 114 Front St. It wasn’t far, but there was a lot to do & not a lot of time to do it. When we started telling people about the upcoming relocation we got offers of help from friends & family without hesitation. We ended up with all of the help we could use and everything got done in time for the grand re-opening!
While there are certainly areas of video game fandom that should be avoided at all costs, I’ve been able to interact with a lot of great people online through social media and live streaming sites like Twitch. It’s the gaming community that introduced me to Extra Life.
Extra Life is an annual event to raise money to heal sick and injured kids at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. This year is the ten year anniversary of Extra Life and it will be my third year participating. In 2017 participants raised over $10 million and this year we’ve already surpassed $12 MILLION!!!
I’m raising money for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin by completing a 24 hour gaming marathon starting at 10am on Saturday, December 8th. YOU can participate in the marathon because I’ll be broadcasting the whole event on my Twitch and YouTube channels. In the past I’ve only used Twitch, but now the technology exists to do both at the same time...which I still need to test...but I’m sure it’ll be fine because technology always works the way it’s supposed to...right? Anyway, I figured more people have Google accounts so we might get more people in chat.
I also consider myself to be fortunate in that I’m married to a pretty amazing woman who is going above & beyond this year for Extra Life. Firefly Fibers will be matching our knitting community donations up to $250 total!!! When you make your donation just throw a #Firefly in the message, or something to help us recognize it as a match. She’ll also be able to take your donations in the store by cash or check through 3pm on Saturday the 8th. Thank you, Alisa!
This year I’ve got some fun donation incentives planned for during the stream, one of which involves our very own Alisa the Yarnista!!!
Game Day Shenanigans:
Donate $5 and I'll take the BeanBoozled challenge LIVE!!!
I think it's funny to buy Alisa gaudy costume jewelry from Walmart. For a $15 donation I'll wear her necklace & tiara for 30 minutes ON STREAM!!!
If we hit $1,000 before my marathon ends I'll go for an extra HOUR!!!
If we raise $1,000 before Alisa joins the stream on Saturday (5pm-ish) we'll BOTH taste-test a variety 6 pack of Lester's Fixins soda. We have:
Maple Syrup
Bacon soda with Chocolate
Pumpkin Pie
Mustard
Buffalo Wing
Ranch
If you’d like to make a donation toward the cause you can do that on my official donation page RIGHT OVER HERE!
If you aren’t able to donate this year you can still help the effort by sharing on your social media or just stop by to hang out with me during the marathon in chat! I can really use some company Sunday morning from about 3am-6am. :)
Thank you for letting me be a part of your knitting family for the last 8+ years. I’ve been able to raise money for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in large part to your generosity & to say that I appreciate it is a massive understatement.
Hope to see you in chat this weekend!
