Simple Knits | Jars in June

It's no secret that I have a bit of an obsession with canning jars. I really LOVE them. I always have. I grew up in the Colorado mountains and I have some beautiful vintage jars from there - I don't recall if they were found in our house, our "barn" (previously the town distillery/brewery), or from the random rubble I loved to scavenge in the forest - and my collection has only grown since then.

The humble Mason Jar has a daily presence at our house - from beverages to divvying food servings to making cold-brew coffee to vases (especially the beautiful vintage blue glass). We've also been known to (on occasion) use canning jars for... canning. *wink*

Because of my jar love (aka obsession), when I first discovered Cuppow Drinking Lids, I was over the moon and had to find a way to carry them at Firefly Fibers, so I decided to design a... Canning Jar Sweater.

Silly? Maybe. Fun? FOR SURE!

Sadly, my current jar sweater needs to be retired (badly and some fellow knitters shot down my idea of darning it), so I'll be knitting a new one and I thought you might like to join me with this fast and fun project!

The Canning Jar Sweater uses 35-60 yards of worsted weight yarn (it's a super fast knit) and the favorite shop yarn for this project is Spud & Chloe Sweater - the cotton in this yarn is perfect for absorbing a bit of extra moisture and ideal for warm weather. When it comes down to trying to choose a color, it might actually take less time to knit the project.

So... are you in?

If so, if you don't have the pattern yet, for the next 2 weeks (through Saturday, June 20th) you can get the PDF pattern for the special price of $2 ($1 OFF) in two places:

  • fireflyfibers.com :: the pattern is already on sale, so all you need to do is add it to your cart and check out - we even have Cuppow Drinking Lids in stock.
  • ravelry.com :: add the pattern to your cart and enter discount code 'SIMPLEKNITSKAL' for the $1 OFF.

I hope you'll join me this month in knitting some sweaters for your canning jars!

Cheers!

Alisa

PS - I did finish May's project, Reminisce by Truly Myrtle, a couple weeks back and it's lovely! I'll share this FO and others soon!

Moments | Taking a breath...

You may have noticed that I've been a bit absent lately - to say that things have been busy is a huge understatement. Life has exploded. One big "kaboom". But, the majority of it is super exciting (details to come soon), however it's still rather exhausting, so I'm in need of a break and taking a breather,.

What does this mean? First, I'll be posting our next Simple Knits KAL project a little later than normal - it will still be in the first week of June, I just need a few days to catch my breath. Second, if you haven't finished the May project (or even cast on yet), let's get crazy and extend the deadline a few days until Thursday, June 4th. Sound good?

In the meantime... here's a peek at what's made it's way to my needles as part of the 5 Year Celebration at Firefly Fibers - Antarktis in Spun Right Round's 80/20 SW Sock in our special Firefly Love colorway...

Cheers and I'll be back soon!

Simple Knits | Simply Knitting

I decided this month that I was going to get going on the May Simple Knits Knitalong project early in the month because, even though I've been finishing on time, it's been just barely on time and I really just want to simply knit and enjoy the process and the project.

For this month's project, Reminisce by Truly Myrtle, I was torn between 2 yarns and the Blue Sky Alpacas Suri Merino in the Dusk colorway was the winner for this version. Psst... I say "this version" because the second yarn is still queued up since I'm hopelessly optimistic that I can knit all of the things.

So... when my amazing hubby gave me a day off earlier this week - in the true spirit of our knitalong - I made time that day to cast on between errands and other "day off duties" and... to be completely honest, I can barely put this lovely hat down. Seriously, it's been a "just one more round" project since I cast on. Libby's design has a wonderful flow and combining that with the deliciously luxurious Blue Sky Alpacas Suri Merino, it's destined to be a gorgeous FO in the very near future!

So, I'm about halfway through the body of the hat and there's no telling how much more progress will be made before the day is up. Not only am I excited to try a second yarn for Reminisce, I also have my sights set on a Truly Myrtle shawl for a shop sample. Conveniently, I already have the perfect shawl yarn wound. It's meant to be, right?!

Are you knitting along this month? If you are, or plan to, and haven't picked up the Reminisce pattern yet, be sure to pop on over to Ravelry for Libby's special for our Knitalong'ers...

20% OFF the Reminisce pattern through Sunday, May 17th! Just pop on over to Ravelry to purchase the pattern here and enter the coupon code 'SIMPLEKNITSKAL'.

I'm off to do work things, you know... order yarn, knit a round on Reminisce, reply to emails, knit a round, pay bills, knit a round, plan classes, knit a round... oh, and finish building the new Firefly Fibers website. And between all of that, I've been getting a fair amount of knitting done. It's busy around here!

I can't wait to see your version of Reminisce!

Cheers!
